Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating the death of a 38-year-old Charlotte-Mecklenburg school teacher whose body was found inside his southwest Charlotte home Tuesday morning.

The victim has been identified as Anthony T. Davis, who taught at Randolph Middle School in southeast Charlotte.

Police say they were called to Davis’ home, in the 7500 block of Lady Liberty Lane, shortly before 9 a.m., after a relative called authorities about being unable to reach Davis. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officials say Davis had not showed up for work this morning.

Office Rosalyn Harrington, a spokeswoman for CMPD, said officers found Davis’ body inside the home.

Harrington said the investigation is in its early stages, and police are calling the case “a death investigation” at this point. Homicide and Firearms detectives are combing the victim’s house early this afternoon.

Police say Davis’ car is missing.

The car is described as a silver or gray 2007 Ford Edge, with N.C. license tag XWE-2401. Anyone with information about the case, including the missing vehicle, is asked to call a Homicide detective at 704-432-TIPS. Or information can be called to Crime Stoppers, 704-334-1600.

CMS spokeswoman Cynthia Robbins said Davis, who taught Career and Technology Education, had worked at Randolph Middle since 2004 and had been with the school system in various positions for more than 11 years.

Robbins said grief counselors are at Randolph Middle this afternoon and will be there again Wednesday to meet with students and staff.

Principal Jackie Menser is sending a letter home today with all students, informing them of Davis’ death.
